Be a Mentor

Mentor Responsibilities

Mentors are trusted adults who commit to being present, consistent, and supportive in a young person’s life. They are not there to “fix” anything — they are there to listen, guide, and form genuine relationships grounded in respect. Through regular check-ins and conversations, mentors help create stability and encouragement for youth navigating their path in Thunder Bay. Their role is to remind youth that they don’t have to figure everything out alone.

  • Build a trusting, respectful relationship with their mentee
  • Schedule and attend regular check-ins (weekly or biweekly)
  • Respond to messages within an agreed timeframe
  • Show up on time and follow through on commitments
  • Share relevant opportunities (jobs, programs, events)
  • Maintain confidentiality and follow program guidelines
